What We Store, and Who Sets It
Essential Browser Storage
RequiredBiteRoutes does not set its own cookies. We use your browser's local storage for the job a session cookie would normally do. This is what keeps you signed in and stops your cart emptying when you reload the page. Without it you could not log in or check out.
Examples: Sign-in tokens, shopping cart contents
Preference Storage
OptionalWe save a few of your choices in the browser so the site behaves the way you left it. Clearing this resets those choices and nothing else breaks.
Examples: Light or dark theme, whether you dismissed the cookie notice, dashboard sidebar state, a referral code from a link you followed
Stripe Cookies (Third Party)
RequiredOur checkout and our seller payout pages embed forms served by Stripe. Those run inside Stripe's own frames and may set Stripe's cookies and storage for payment processing, seller onboarding, and fraud prevention. Stripe sets them, not us, and Stripe's privacy policy covers them. They only load on the pages that use them.
Examples: Card payment form at checkout, payout and onboarding pages in the owner dashboard
The Short Version
BiteRoutes does not set any cookies of its own. What we need to remember about you in the browser lives in your device's local storage instead, with one item in session storage that disappears when you close the tab. The only cookies you can pick up on our site come from Stripe, inside the payment and seller onboarding forms we embed, and only on the pages that use them. We run no analytics cookies, no advertising cookies, and no cross-site tracking of any kind.
What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files a website stores on your device so it can remember something between page loads. Local storage does much the same job, but the browser holds it for the site rather than attaching it to every request. We use the second one.
What We Keep in Local Storage
Your sign-in tokens from AWS Cognito, your shopping cart, your light or dark theme choice, whether you have dismissed the cookie notice, a referral code if you arrived through a referral link, and your collapsed sections in the owner dashboard sidebar. This stays on your device until you or your browser clears it. It is not attached to every request the way a cookie is, but your sign-in token is read from it and sent as an authorization header when the app talks to our API, which is what proves who you are.
What We Keep in Session Storage
One thing is kept in session storage rather than local storage: your most recent filters on the browse page, so that going back returns you to the results you were looking at. Session storage is scoped to the browser tab and the browser discards it when you close that tab, so this does not follow you between visits.
Third-Party Cookies
Stripe is the only third party that may set cookies on our site. It does so inside its own frames on the checkout page and on the seller payouts and onboarding pages, for payment processing, seller onboarding, and fraud prevention. Stripe's own privacy policy governs them. We also load maps from Mapbox, which collects its own usage telemetry about map interactions under its privacy policy. We do not allow advertising cookies and we do not sell data to advertisers.
No Analytics or Advertising
We do not run Google Analytics or any other analytics or tracking script on this site, so there are no analytics cookies to accept or refuse. If that changes we will update this page and say so before turning anything on.
Managing What Is Stored
Your browser settings let you block or clear both cookies and local storage. Clearing ours signs you out, empties your cart, and resets your preferences, and blocking storage entirely will stop you staying logged in or completing an order. Blocking Stripe means the payment form will not load, so checkout will not work.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this cookie policy as we add new features or change our technology providers. Any significant changes will be communicated through the platform.
